Your fuel data stays yours.
TankIt has no user account, no analytics SDK, and no tracking. Your receipt photos and fuel history stay on your device — and, if you turn on iCloud sync, in your own private iCloud. They are never sent to a TankIt server. The only thing TankIt sends out is your location, so it can fetch nearby fuel prices.
01What stays on your devices
Everything you put into TankIt is stored inside the app on your device. That includes:
- Receipt photos you scan or import
- Fuel entries (volume, price per litre, total, fuel type, date, station)
- Odometer readings
- Vehicle information you've entered
- Your settings and preferences
Small pieces of data — like the latest cheapest-pump result — are shared with the app's widgets on your device. That never leaves your iPhone either.
iCloud sync (optional)
If you turn on iCloud sync in Settings, your fuel entries, vehicles and receipt photos are kept in step across your own Apple devices through your own iCloud account. That data lives in your iCloud — governed by Apple's privacy policy — and TankIt has no way to read it. Nothing goes to a TankIt server: it syncs from your device, to your iCloud, to your other devices. Sync is optional; leave it off and everything stays on the one device.
02What leaves your device
When you open the price finder, TankIt sends your location to look up nearby fuel prices. Depending on the country, that goes to one of three places:
- Austria: the official government fuel-price service (E-Control).
- France: the official open government fuel-price data.
- Australia (NSW & TAS): a small TankIt service, hosted on Cloudflare, that looks the prices up from the official Australian government data on your behalf.
We send your location so the service can return stations near you — nothing that identifies you (no name, no account, no advertising ID). Your location is rounded to roughly a one-kilometre area.
For Australia, prices go through that small TankIt service rather than directly, because the government data needs a key we can't safely put inside the app. The service only relays the price lookup — it never receives your fuel data, receipts, or identity. Each request includes a standard Apple security check (App Attest) that confirms it's really coming from the TankIt app and not a bot; it can't be used to identify you.
Apart from these price lookups (and iCloud sync, if you turn it on), nothing else leaves your device. There's no analytics, no tracking, and no TankIt server that ever receives your fuel data, receipts, or identity.
03Permissions
The app asks for two iOS permissions, both optional:
- Camera — to scan fuel receipts. Usage string: "Tank It uses the camera to scan fuel receipts." You can still use the app without granting camera access, by entering fills manually or importing a photo via the share extension.
- Location (when in use) — to find nearby fuel stations. Usage string: "Tank It uses your location to find nearby fuel stations." Without location access the price finder won't work, but every other feature does.
Both permissions can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
04Apple Privacy Manifest
TankIt includes Apple's Privacy Manifest — a formal declaration, checked by the App Store, that the app does not track you and collects no data. The handful of system features it uses (such as saving your settings or checking there's room to store a receipt photo) are ordinary iOS housekeeping, not data collection.
05No tracking, no ads
TankIt has no analytics SDK, no crash reporter that phones home, no advertising identifier, no third-party trackers of any kind. We do not use cookies because there is no website session, no account, and no server to log in to.
We don't show ads. We never sell or share your data, because we don't have it.
06Children
TankIt isn't directed at children under 13. It doesn't knowingly collect any information from anyone, so it doesn't knowingly collect information from children either.
07Export
Your data is portable. From the Settings screen inside the app you can export:
- A CSV file with every fill-up.
- A ZIP archive bundling every receipt photo plus the CSV.
08Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and bump the effective date below. Material changes will also be flagged in the app's release notes.
